Creative Writing Group – “Oh, And Simone Has Never Driven.”

Each month a new writing prompt, an actual overheard snippet, will be given to the “Oh, Simone” followers and then they will be asked to submit their short stories using the prompt as either the first or last line of the story.  Selected stories will be posted on this website.

The OLMA, Omaha Lincoln Music Academy, meeting was starting at 10, the sign said. That was all she needed to know. It was now 8:45 and she realized she still had time. Not much, but a little.  How to make a good impression? How much to say? How much to keep a secret?

She needed to be sure that anyone who knew her name and real story, could be silenced. It meant some frantic calls, texts, and large money transfers. Anonymity, even short-term ones, didn’t come cheap.

As she walked in for her final audition, she eyed the panel who would decide her fate. Being a “Blind audition” helped a bit.  It wasn’t lost on a few of them, however, that the very room they were seated in, the building that housed them, much of their research dollars, were because of her. She’d chosen to hire many of them personally, which they would never know.

The lifted her violin from its case, but not before saying, “Hello, my name is Mary Wilson.” She neglected to add her middle name. Buffet.

In any case, there are really just two options, Claudette said. I have been looking for a way to get noticed so I can be on America’s Next Top Microwave baker. I tried everything except outright bribery. I think it now comes down to shipping my famous banana apple strawberry cheesecake and hoping it gets past the mailroom to the judges, or driving my Claudette’s Rolling Bakery food truck across country and staking them out in the parking lot.  California, here I come.
